My name is David and here’s a little more about me and this site…
Learning, writing, and teaching are passions of mine. I enjoy inspiring others, as well as connecting with them through the things that I learn…or shall I say the things I put myself out on a limb to learn!
So why “Digging the Well”? Last year I was working on a project that made me aware (painfully) that although I knew a lot of people, I did a very poor job of keeping connected with them.
Unfortunately, it was nearly impossible for me to carry out a big portion of my project because of that.
Impossible is a strong word and there were many layers to what was going on with me and in me at the time, but I will say it was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and I was intent on never having to go through that again. That’s when I knew I had to change.
I picked up a book called “Dig Your Well Before You’re Thirsty” (Harvey Mackay). It had lots of great tips and the title of the book stuck with me. What’s cool about it is that “digging the well” can mean a lot of different things.
For me, it has to do with preparation and laying down good foundations: emotional, relational, financial, spiritual, etc. It’s not just about looking at today, but to the future as well. It’s a commitment to grow as a person, to grow new skills, to fill those emotional bank accounts (mine and those around me), and to leave something behind that will give back and go on for a very long time.
The early stages of this blog probably won’t have a lot of “bells and whistles.” Not a lot of fancy videos, audios, & podcasts. In the interest of getting it started in the first place (translation: get off my ***ss & stop procrastinating), I’ve elected to put that together as I go (second translation: learn what the h**ll I’m doing). Here’s to the ride!

Thanks, Bob. I for one have always been fascinated by transformation stories, before and after stories, success biographies, etc.
It’s one thing to go through the process out of the public eye (who then later read about it or watch it on TV and are surprised to find it wasn’t an overnight success). It’s quite another to go through it and document while others are watching it happen.
My sincere desire is that what I write and the experiences I share will inspire others to be their best and to realize that we are all in the same boat when it comes to transformation. Anyone can do it. And everyone faces fear about it to one degree or another. And everyone has their dream stealers - whether it’s themselves, their family, friends, boss, or whoever would tell them they can’t go after what they want in life and actually achieve it.
You’ve presented some great ideas, Bob…definitely worth pursuing! The shy, reserved, timid side of me says “No way! Too risky to put yourself out THAT far!” So as a coach of mine once said, “If I can’t, I must!”

Hey thanks Dr. Ben! That’s fantastic. Yes, growth and personal change is definitely a path…and probably more of a jungle path than a garden walk for most!

That’s great, Sarah! Will do. Thanks for the encouragement…comes in handy, especially on the days that my alter ego “Dennis” pays a visit! LOL.
